The Bright Seeds Story

Founded in 1988 by David and Sue Bright, Bright Seeds began as a small family business supplying cattle feed and forage crops. It wasn’t long before a new opportunity emerged—recognising a growing need for game cover and stewardship seed, the company quickly evolved to become a leading supplier in these specialist areas.

From the outset, Bright Seeds has been closely aligned with the development of conservation agriculture in the UK. The introduction of set-aside in 1988, followed by Countryside Stewardship schemes in the late 1990s, marked a turning point for the industry. Bright Seeds played an important role in shaping seed mixtures for wild birds and environmental stewardship, helping to set the standards still used today.

The business expanded further in 1999 when Chris Bright joined, bringing a strong focus on conservation grasses and wildflowers. This led to the company’s first wildflower harvest in 2001, laying the foundations for what is now a major part of the business. Today, Bright Seeds manages nearly 20 wildflower harvesting sites across southern England, alongside specialist seed production at its headquarters.

Innovation and quality remain at the heart of everything we do. Through close relationships with plant breeders across Europe, we have secured exclusive access to a range of high-performing seed varieties. All of our mixtures are rigorously tested, with ongoing trials conducted at our demonstration site at Dean Lane Farm, as well as partner locations across the UK.

Since relocating to Dean Lane Farm in Fovant, Wiltshire in 2019, we have invested significantly in modern facilities to support our growing operations. From advanced seed processing and storage to dedicated trial and production areas, our site enables us to deliver consistently high-quality products to our customers. We have also expanded into hedging plants, supported by on-site chilling and packing facilities.

Bright Seeds has grown beyond the UK, supplying seed mixtures to Ireland and exporting across Europe, including France, Denmark, and Austria. Despite this growth, we remain a family-rooted business with a strong commitment to customer relationships, practical advice, and environmental stewardship.

In 2023, Ben Dolbear and Arthur Barraclough joined the leadership team as directors, bringing fresh energy and over 20 years of combined industry experience. Together with Chris Bright, they continue to drive the business forward—focused on delivering trusted, innovative seed solutions that support both agriculture and the natural environment.

At Bright Seeds, we are passionate about enhancing the countryside and helping our customers achieve the very best results from their land.
