• Provides a fantastic warm cover crop
• Supplied as rhizomes, small root bundles ready to be planted. We can arrange hire of a purpose-made planter.
• Ideal for hard to access areas and on shoots where annual crop establishment is challenging.
• Miscanthus thrives on all soil types, including difficult soils and requires very low fertiliser inputs.
• Proven to be beneficial for wider farmland wildlife, particularly invertebrates.
• It has been successfully grown on sites over 1,000 feet above sea level.
• Miscanthus is tolerant of various herbicides for weed control.
• Miscanthus will take a couple of years before it is established properly, in the first year we suggest using a nurse crop to provide initial cover. For example Sorghum, Maize, Utopia.
• Produces good nesting cover in the spring.

Growing tips…

• Establish from late March – May
• Suggested rate is 12,000 rhizomes per hectare
• Ensure the soil temperature is a minimum of 8 degrees before planting
• As with all crop establishment, moisture retention is vitally important
• Rhizomes should be planted at 4 – 6 inches deep

• A Miscanthus crop sequesters approximately 3.67 tonnes of CO2e per hectare annually back into the soil
• The crop is permanent so there is no requirement to plough each year
• The plants also store approximately 17.61 tonnes of CO2e per hectare annually
