Perennial crops give good cover for over five years. These crops are a good choice on difficult soil types and in areas where machinery access is challenging. One thing to remember is that they won’t offer much cover in year one, so using a ‘nurse crop’ can work well. We have a range of mixtures that will provide good cover in year one, and then in future years the perennial element will grow on.
Royal MK 3
Triticale and Japanese Reed Millet provide excellent cover and feed value for the first year. The Reed Canary Grass is the perennial element that will provide the long-term cover. Very well suited to heavy soil types and areas where annual cropping struggles to establish. This mix works best drilled in wide row-widths.
Royal MK 4
Utopia and Interval provide excellent winter-hardy cover for the first year. In year two chicory and sweet clover will produce an ideal habitat for pollinators, game and farmland birds from flowering in the early summer through to producing seed and cover though the winter months. The chicory prefers free-draining soils and will last for five years or more.
Royal MK 5
First developed nearly 20 years ago, this is our original perennial mixture. It is very versatile and suits a wide range of soil types. As with all the perennial mixtures, for best results drill in wide row-widths.
Royal MK 6
All the benefits of the other perennial mixtures with the added value of flowering species. The phacelia is a favourite with pollinators. The long-term habitat created by this mix is top-drawer with a combination of flowering species and seed producers. The seeds produced by the chicory and fennel are sure to attract gold finches and other farmland birds.
Deer Grazer
Highly palatable deer mixture, rich in vitamins and minerals. Chicory is a natural anthelmintic so helps to maintain a healthy population. Customers report that deer travel miles to reach this crop!
