Arthur’s involvement with Bright Seeds stretches back to his student days when he joined us as an apprentice. He subsequently went on to become an award-winning graduate from the Royal Agricultural University, and a permanent member of the Bright Seeds team. Arthur’s knowledge of countryside affairs is practical as well as academic, and he helps to run a syndicate shoot near his home in north Hampshire.

His passion for the countryside makes him a popular speaker at gamekeeper events, and he is a regular visitor to educational institutions such as Newton Rigg College. Technical Sales – East Anglia

max@brightseeds.co.uk

Max is technical advisor covering East Angelia and the East Midlands. A graduate in game, habitat and wildlife management from De Monfort University, he previously studied at the Cambridge College of Agriculture and Horticulture. Brought up in west Norfolk, an interest in the countryside existed from an early age, demonstrated when – as an eagle-eyed eight-year-old – he notified a gamekeeper of a poaching- incident he had witnessed (the culprit was apprehended). At 11 he was already making his mark as a beater at a local shoot.

Having held senior positions with the eminent shoots Stradsett Hall and Fring Hall Estate, Max is a previous finalist for gamekeeper of the year, and recipient of the prestigious GWCT East Anglian Grey partridge award sponsored by Mills & Reeve. His believes gamekeeping is about what birds need all year round – nesting cover in spring, safe areas in the summer and food and shelter in the winter. He strongly advocates that conservation and shooting are natural bedfellows – and states that you never serve the interests of one by deriding the other.

With Environmental Land Schemes (ELMS) legislation dominating the countryside agenda, Max has stated that the role of the farmer is changing to one of environmentalist as well as food producer. He feels the highly developed game and stewardship sector we see in Britain today possesses many of the skills and disciplines required for the wider green agenda and the need for co-operation between gamekeeper and farmer has never been greater. Highly respected in the conservation and agricultural sectors, Max’s philosophy is that the most important – and rewarding – investment the countryside can make is in the people who work and live in it. He is a strong advocate of life-long learning and believes respect for others is the keystone to success and job satisfaction.
