Testimonial: MAS 17E The 20 Tonne Maize Crop

Robert Symms of Batsons Farm, Adber, Sherborne knows a thing or two about feeding maize to the family's high yielding 180 dairy cows so growing the right variety is crucial.

With help from tractor driver Raymond House, Richard Leach of Bright Seeds conducted a trial at Robert's farm, the results speak volumes.

¨ Drilled at 42,500 seeds per acre on 26th April 2011

¨ Plot size 3,600m²

¨ Harvested by contractor Nicky Parker from Illchester on 7th October, filled 1 x 10 tonne trailer & 1 x 12 tonne trailer

¨ Total fresh weight was approximately 61 tonnes per hectare or just over 24 tonnes per acre

¨ Approximate DM of 30%

It's worth noting that achieving 20 tonnes FW per acre will reduce the cost by £5.00 per tonne over a crop yielding 16 tonnes (Masstock - Smart Farming)
